AAA batteries are commonly used in small electronic devices, such as TV remotes, MP3 players, and sex toys. Devices that operate at the same voltage but require higher currents use larger AA batteries. AA batteries have three times the capacity of AAA batteries.

However, with the increased efficiency and miniaturization of modern electronics, many products designed to use AA batteries are being replaced by models that accept AAA batteries. An AAA battery is 44.5 mm long and 10.5 mm in diameter. AAA alkaline batteries weigh approximately 11.5 grams each, while AAA lithium batteries weigh approximately 7.6 grams, and rechargeable (Ni-MH) batteries typically weigh between 14 and 15 grams.

The nominal voltage of AAA alkaline and lithium batteries is 1.5 V, while that of Ni-MH or NiCd batteries is 1.2 V. The capacity of AAA alkaline batteries is generally from 900 to 1155 mAh (3240 to 4158 coulombs).
